Pop-Up Spotlight: Nightmare Machine

October 10, 2018

By Danielle Ziegenfuss and Shauna Thomson

Have you ever experienced a dream that turned into a nightmare? That, my friends, is exactly what you will find tucked away on North 9th Street in Williamsburg. The Dream Machine launched their evil twin, Nightmare Machine, which is equally captivating and nothing short of a true spin on modern NYC horror. Your fellow Freak-Festers will come dressed to the nines in their most festive costumes, so make sure you follow suit as to not miss out on the complete nightmarish experience. Your Instagram followers will thank you later!

Upon entering this inconspicuous house of terror located right in the heart of Williamsburg, you will be greeted by your hosts dressed to kill (no pun intended) in white jumpsuits mysteriously speckled and splattered with what appears to be… blood! The murderous guides will escort you from the check-in hub to the entrance that will lead you to an experience you will never forget.

Walking through the first phase of the Nightmare Machine you will find orbs of light that hang from above, whisking visitors away to an unknown territory, only to find a foggy graveyard ahead. While skipping through the fog, donโ€™t forget to snap a selfie with the etched messages on each headstone. (Totally post-worthy and ever-so-clever!)

As you turn the corner to the next phase, you will approach every New Yorkerโ€™s worst nightmare turned into reality. Creepy crawlers cover the walls as you enter an abandoned laundromat. At the entrance, you are greeted by a spooky host offering you a little something sweet before the final throesย of the Nightmare Machine experience. Feeling daring? Take a dive into the Fiery Pits of Hell ball pitโ€”make sure you take advantage of the Boomerang App to relive the excitement on loop!

We give Nightmare Machine two thumbs up (or four thumbs between the two of us) and highly recommend adding this fright fest to your list of Halloween activities. No better way to bring in the fall and Halloween season than to get dressed up in your favorite festive attire and enjoy a creatively spooky experience!
