Every New Yorker knows about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but not every New Yorker knows that the parade celebration actually starts the day before. Every year on the day before Thanksgiving, the public is invited to visit the parade’s Balloon Inflation and watch their favorite helium characters take shape. Get up close and personal with the real stars of the holiday parade before they set out on the grand march down crowd-lined Sixth Avenue. For optimal viewing, there’s a designated area for observers. Enter near the American Museum of Natural History at Columbus and West 73rd Street. There will be volunteers on hand to make sure you get to where the action’s happening.
Date: Wednesday, November 21st
Time: 1:00PM to 8:00PM
Location: Outside the American Museum of Natural History (between West 77th and West 81st Streets)
Where to Enter: West 73rd Street and Columbus Avenue
Where to Exit: West 81st Street and Central Park West
If you love the parade but can’t stand crowds, this event is a great compromise. For more info and a very helpful map, click here.
