The Citi Habitats agent community is made up of some pretty inspiring and interesting people. We had a chance to chat with one of them, Joanna Penny, co-leader (along with Tuval Mor) of The PennyMor Team at Citi Habitats, based out of our Upper West Side office. She shared with us what she’s currently focused on, advice she gives to new agents, a secret talent, and more…
What is the coolest thing you are working on?
My Partner Tuval and I just started an official team, The PennyMor Team, and we are in the process of recruiting agents and getting new listings. I absolutely love all the members who have joined. They are so hard working and genuinely care about our clients. Building something that not only will build my future but also the future of our team members is very special to me. I love mentoring and working with other agents towards a common goal and I’m so excited to build this business with the amazing agents on our team. My partner is extremely knowledgeable, innovative and hardworking. He has taught me so much in the time that we have been working together. The sky is the limit and that is what we are working towards!
Who inspires you?
There are two people who currently inspire me. First one is my husband Darrick. He constantly challenges me and pushes me to be a better person. He knows me better than anyone else and knows right away if I’m starting to get complacent or making excuses for why something isn’t going to work or why it didn’t work. He always reminds me to stand up for what’s right and to stand up for myself, because I often will let things slide when I shouldn’t. He definitely lights the fire under me when it comes to stepping up and working hard, especially if I am tired and feeling like I can’t keep going. The other one is my partner Tuval. Since the beginning of our partnership he has inspired me to be the best agent and leader I can be. He constantly motivates me to go the extra mile for our clients. Every day he comes up with a new way to enhance our business and improve our team. He is one of the best salesmen I know and I am extremely lucky to call him my partner. His integrity and honesty is something that is so important to me and that is the basis of his business. He always pushes me to be detail oriented and to come up with new plans and tactics to ensure success. Since working with him I have seen a huge change in who I am as a real estate agent and I am so thankful to have a partner who genuinely cares about my success and wellbeing and inspires me every single day.
What is your secret talent no one knows about?
I have been singing my whole life and am an accomplished Musical Theatre artist. I have my BFA degree in Theatre and currently work with composers in the city on new works.
If you could be any animal, which would you be?
A great white heron.
What 3 traits define you?
Transparent emotionally and in a business sense, patient, and driven.
What advice do you have for new agents in the business?
Set a schedule for yourself and stick to it. It’s so important to be your own boss. When I was a new agent I was so excited and passionate about the business (I still am) and I wanted to know everything I could know about the business. Do your research. Read articles about what is happening in the market. Commit to real estate and spend as much time in the office working on your business as possible. Utilize the tools that Citi Habitats has to offer. There are some amazing classes and opportunities that are offered here that no other company offers. Take advantage of your manager’s experience and everything Gary and his team work on for us. The tools provided to are here for a reason and it works. Use it!
